Ingredients
  

Cookie Dough
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
Decorating
  • 1 cup royal icing for decoration
  • food coloring various colors for coloring icing

Method
 

Prepare the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
  5. Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Bake the Cookies
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Roll out the chilled dough on a floured surface to about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Use a flower-shaped cookie cutter to cut out cookies and place them on a baking sheet.
  4. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
  5. Allow cookies to cool completely on a wire rack.
Decorate the Cookies
  1. Once cooled, use royal icing to decorate the cookies as desired.
  2. Add food coloring to the icing for different colors and use sprinkles if desired.
