Ingredients
  

Chicken
  • 1 whole whole chicken about 4-5 pounds
Beer
  • 1 can lager beer any light lager works well
Spices
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil for coating the chicken
  • 1 tablespoon paprika smoked or sweet
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional for heat

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the grill to medium heat (about 350°F).
  2. Rinse the chicken under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
  3. Rub the chicken with olive oil and season generously with the spice mixture, ensuring to coat inside the cavity as well.
Cooking
  1. Open the can of beer and take a few sips to make space. Place the can inside the chicken's cavity.
  2. Stand the chicken upright on the grill using the beer can holder or directly on the grill grates.
  3. Close the grill lid and cook for about 1 hour, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F in the thickest part of the thigh.
  4. Carefully remove the chicken from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes before carving.
